Rachel shivered a little bit and stood over the eggs that she was cooking for the family and company. Hearing footsteps right behind her she smiled. "Good morning." She knew it was Tobias because he had come up behind her and kissed her on the cheek. If any other man had done that, they would be flying across the room right now, and she wasn't sure if it would have been from just her. She was about to say something when she heard a "Morning" come from the other end of the kitchen. "Morning, Aaron. How do you like your eggs, and do you want toast?" Rachel smiled for Aaron.

He felt a small smile come to his face, but was still finding it a little hard to be happy with everything having gone wrong so recently. Not that he could be blamed really. For 15 year he hadn't had a very interesting life, but now all he really wanted was to have that life back.
"Scrambled, and toast sounds good. Thank you." He ran a hand habitually through his wild brown hair as he spoke. This... this might take some getting used to. He had a feeling he'd be staying here for a while.

Rachel nodded. "Scrambled it is." She got a plate ready and handed it to Tobias. "Here you go, hun." She started making the scrambled eggs. She usually waited a bit before making the toast so it was still hot.

Tobias told Aaron "good morning" then replied "thanks" to Rachel as he took his breakfast. Sometimes he tried to make jokes about how mornings like this beat his previous routine of catching a mouse, eating it, and making a pellet, but he kept quiet about it this time. Occasionally Rachel would tease him about mouse omelettes too. Even though so much time had passed, he didn't take simple things like this for granted nowdays.

Rachel said, "You're welcome." She didn't feel it was time to joke, so she didn't say anything about mouse omelets. Soon Aaron's breakfast was done, and she put it all on a plate. "Here you go, and I wasn't sure if you wanted butter or jam on your toast. It's all right there." She pointed to where she had them laid out. "I'm going to go wake the kids," she told Tobias.

Aaron couldn't help but notice how quiet people were being and wondered if it had something to do with his presence. Normal morning routines, things you do all the time, seem odder to do in front of a guest. Besides that he'd had a... well a rough night really was the only way to put it. He'd lost everything in a single night.
He had to keep reminding himself that they'd get his family back, somehow they were going to try to do that. They'd make the yeerks realize they'd made a mistake in messing with the Chapmans a second time.
He accepted the plate from Rachel with a quiet, "Th-thank you." Then he made his way to the table and started spreading some jam on the toast. It felt really.... weird being here. It wasn't the same as at home, but home really wasn't safe for him now.

Tobias could guess a bit of what the boy must be experiencing. He hadn't had a home to worry about being safe, but he remembered the frequent discussions the others had about safety and protecting their families and such.
"I never really had a home to have problems with...but I know what it feels like to have to live in a strange place. To not really consider yourself as having a home..." Truth be told, although he'd gotten relatively comfortable in the meadow and the scoop, he had never felt totally at home until now.

Aaron listened to Tobias's words and swallowed a bite of bread around the lump that was reforming in his throat. With a sight he said, "I've always wanted m-more than what my life offered. I g-guess we really t-take what we have for g-granted until we d-don't have it anymore."
That was the truth, wasn't it? He'd had so much, a mother and grandfather who loved him, a home that was his own and felt right. Even with that he'd wanted more, he'd wanted adventure and excitement. In one night he'd gotten what he'd wanted, but he'd lost what he had. It was only now that he realized that his life hadn't been perfect, but he missed what there had been.

"I definately agree with that. It's important to value what you do have because you never know when you might lose it. ALthough I think it's even sadder to not know you have something in the first place until you've already lost it." He was referring to Elfangor there.

Taipa slept soundly through the night, not knowing that Aaron was going to stay with them for a while. She woke up to the smell of food and people talking. Groggily, she walked downstairs, and said, "Dad? Who's here?"

Kodiac heard his mother coming up the stairs and his sister going down the stairs, so he got up and quickly got dressed. Opening the door, he said, "Morning, Mom."

"This is Aaron, the grandson of former principal Chapman. The yeerks have gone after his family like they did before. He didn't feel he could go home." Tobias explained. To Aaron, he said "These are our kids, Kodiac and Taipa."

"H-hi," Aaron stuttered out as Tobias explained things to Tapia. He'd seen the kids when his mom had come to visit Rachel, but he hadn't really gotten to meet or speak with either of them before now.
His eyes stayed mostly on his plate even as he quietly said his greeting. It was hard thinking about the mess he was in now, thanks to the yeerks. And he was only getting the Fangors involved in something that might not even have started if he hadn't met Tinem and gotten the morphing power and the blue cube. There wouldn't have been a reason to try and enslave him.
Stop thinking about the things you can't change. Life is as it is and you just have to take this as much in stride as you can.

Kodiac smiled at Aaron, having seen him before, but not officially meeting him. "Hey," he said. He turned to his dad. "Morning, Dad."

Taipa's eyes widened a bit when her father's explanation. She smiled at Aaron, and said, "We'll get them. We can kick the Yeerk's sad ass," before she could stop herself. Uh-oh. She glanced at her father a bit apologetically.
