Cass left her uncle's house, tired of hearing all the cheerful noise inside. Her parents were gone and she was still here. She put her hand on her stomach and sighed. "I hope you're a boy in there. I don't think having a daughter by the name of Tyler would work out so well." She had decided then that she wasn't going to give the baby up for adoption, just raise it as her own. If Jay and her broke up over this, then they broke up. Nothing more could be said on the subject.
As Cass walked down the driveway, two policemen walked up. She stopped. What did they want now? Cass didn't commit the crime. Instead she put on a smile and said, "Hello, officers. What can I do ya for?" She blinked, her blue eyes full with concern.
The officer said, "We were looking at some test results, and we thought you should know about this." They handed her a piece of paper and she read it.
"My...mother was pregnant?" She looked up at the officer. The officer nodded and said, "A baby boy. Vincent." Cass watched silently as the officers left. "I was going to have a brother...." Tears came down her face. How much more of this could she take?
She decided to take a walk and was in a busy street. Halfway down, Cass felt hands grab her shoulders and pull her into that person's body. She nearly yelped until she saw Jay. "Hey. You scared the crap out of me. What was that for?"
Jay smiled. "I was thinking...you know, about the baby..."
Cass' eyes widened. "Really? Did you have a change of heart about him? Oh, you'll love him, I know you will!"
"Yeah....change of heart." Jay's head snapped around behind them, and then said, "I'm going to take you to a doctor for your regular checkup." Cass nodded. "Okay."
A few minutes went by and Cass' eyes darted around. "Wait...Jay. This isn't anywhere near the doctor office." She turned to look at him and felt his arm begin to wrap around her waist and his other tightening his grip on her shoulder. Then, her danger radar went off and she twisted out of his grasp. "You wouldn't?!"
Jay gave her a sick, twisted grin. "I gave you the option to do it yourself, babe." Then he ran at her, and she turned and ran through the forest. She kept looking behind her and looking forward.
Cass ducked when needed, and she jumped where needed. She had to get out for the sake of the baby's life...it was his life on the line. She wasn't about to disappoint. She would die if she lost him now...
Cass didn't know where Jay was and so didn't bother looking up. Next thing she knew, she felt claws dig into her shoulder and she was knocked down on the ground. She looked up to see a black tiger. What?
The black tiger seemed to be changing and she scooted back until a tree stopped her. Where the tiger was, Jay now stood. He had this....sick and twisted grin on his face, as if he had planned this the whole time and was taking enjoyment out of it. He grabbed her arms and brought her to her feet. Without a word, He used a rock to hit Cass in the head.
[LATER]
Cass woke up with a migraine and her shirt off. She blinked. "What?" She tried moving her arms, and she was tied up. She panicked and Jay came into view.
"Good, you're awake." He walked up to her and gave her a passionate kiss which she did nothing to fight against. He pulled back and said, "Well, since you decided that it would be a bad idea to hire an abortion doctor, I'm going to be yours....free of charge." He had that grin of his again that made her want to--she leaned her head and threw up on his feet. "I'm sorry!!"
Jay slapped her, an angry look on his face. "On my feet?!" He took her jaw in his hand and pulled her forward as he leaned down and was within an inch of her face. "That. Was. Disgusting. You'll pay for that." Then he laughed. "How about I forget the pain medication to start?"
Cass didn't know what to do, nor why she felt she had to say sorry all the time when she did something. Maybe it was because until this point she still had her innocence. She felt the bounds that held her. Rope. Cass tried to remember what she read in books in situations where they were tied up. She watched, shaking and tears flowing as Jay got the knife ready to cut into her. Then she remembered. Relax and tense. She pulled her hand into a fist and then relaxed, repeating it until she could slip out.
While Jay still had his back turned towards her, Cass got out of the ropes and pushed him down against the utensils he had. Then she realized what she did and ran over to him, putting a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry!! Are you okay?"
Without a word, Jay grabbed her wrist and pulled her down to him. "I'm fine. You, however, are not." He pushed her hands above her head and against the cave, poising his knee to where it was barely touching her stomach. "See, one little twitch, and my knee goes into your stomach and that will be the end of that. Your baby in there will die. Miscarriages are boring, though. You don't live through that as an experience. Abortions are much more fun....and painful. See, now, I have you. I have you cold. So, are you going to be a good little girl and let me operate?"
Cass stared into Jay's eyes and said, "Um...." She was going to say, "Um....are you crazy?!" but she didn't get that chance. He took the um as a yes and pulled her up and got her back to the table. He had turned away again and she darted around the table. "You'll have to catch me."
Jay growled as he raced towards her. Cass kept dodging whenever he got close to her. Then, he ran at her towards a wall and when she dodged, he twisted in front of her and pushed her against the wall of the cave. He pressed his body against hers, so she couldn't move. Great, how am I supposed to get out of this one? I have to....Tyler's life depends on it.... Okay, so she didn't know if it was a boy or girl, but she felt it would be a boy. She was hoping for it to be a boy.
Cass focused back on Jay as he was talking about something. She pushed him back, and he wasn't expecting it. He flew and hit the table. She blinked. "I'm sorry." Instinct told her to run, but she hated inflicting pain on anyone. While she sat there, thinking of what to do, Jay had gotten up and gotten a knife and walked towards her. "If you won't stay still for the abortion, I'll kill you as well."
Cass' eyes flared. "Then why haven't you?" Jay blinked. "Well, then....I'll kill you now." With that, he charged at her knife poised. Cass didn't have anywhere to go, and she covered her stomach with her hands, hoping against all hope that she'd survive this....
Then.... Jay was down! Cass looked over and saw Nichole in her panther morph. And Leona! Cass watched as they got Jay out of there. Nichole came over and said, "Are you okay, love?"
Cass could only nod, as she closed her eyes and broke down. She had lost her innocence then....she wasn't quite who she used to be. Nichole gave her a hug and a shoulder to cry on.

Ty felt like he was going to explode. It was so unreal. He didn't want to see what he was seeing. All he was looking for was what caused her to pass out earlier, and instead, he was seeing why she was so protective of him. He was proud of her, he truly was proud of his mom.
He smiled inside, glad she had such good friends to help her. Now, she had him.

Cass stirred the stew a couple of times before her uncle took over so she could sit down. Then she heard her uncle call that he turned the stew off and they were going out for a bit. She just said okay, and then she brought out an envelope. It was pictures of her son from earlier that day. Yes, son. She knew she was having a baby boy. She was so excited.
As she was looking at the pictures of the inside of her stomach, she heard the phone ring. She found it and she shook her head at her luck.
"One, Two, Three..." Cass leaned as best as she could without injuring her stomach to grab the phone. "Missed it!" It rang twice now. Finally she lowered to the floor and grabbed it, answering before it went to the message machine. "Hello?" She said out of breath.
It was Nichole. She asked if she was okay and if she could come over.
Cass calmed herself down. "Me? Oh, yeah. I just had quite a reach for the phone is all. What's up?"
Cass blinked. "Okay, I'm heading over now. I'll see you in five." She hung up and walked over to where Nichole's house was.
Five minutes later, Cass stood in front of the house and she looked around. "What did she want to show me?" She knocked on the door and waited. Then Nichole opened the door and let her in.
Well, okay...maybe threw.....
"Cass!" she said, throwing open the door. "Come on in! Now...I don't want you to freak...but I've got a slight surprise for you in the kitchen."
She paused, leaning in to whisper, "And no. It's not a surprise shower. That'll come later." Cass held her stomach as she walked in, and giggled at Nichole's statement. "Much later, I hope." Now to someone's eye before finding out Cass' rough story behind how she got pregnant nor even knowing she was, one would think she had just gained weight. It wasn't far along, but far enough she knew it was going to be a baby boy and his first name was going to be Tyler, named after her friend Ty...
As Cass walked into the kitchen, someone said, "Cass, it's me, Ty!"
Then someone spoke and she had to take a deep breath as she stared. Tears brimmed her eyes as she spoke. "Are you trying to pull my leg? Is that what you're trying to do? Because, seriously, Ty's dead....T-Ty's not here...." She clenched her fist. "I can't deal with the emotions right now....especially not right now....please..."
"No...it's really me..." Ty said. "Look, we first met at lunch in school one day." He went on about the times they'd shared, and Kelsinn. "I'm not pulling your leg. Nichole will vouch for me there. I'm the surprise she wanted to show you...." He smiled softly.
More tears came down Cass' face as she walked slowly towards him. "Ty.." She stood in front of him, at arm's length trying to believe it. She felt a sob escape from her lips. "H-How? When?" Tears were coming out harder than before and she knew it was the hormones. "Damn hormones...." She looked surprised at herself and covered her mouth. "I'm sorry..."
Ty felt tears in his own eyes. "Well...it's a long story, and it happened today....I think...it's weird...The Ellimist came to me and gave me the choice to either stay with my departed friend or come back and fight. I chose B."
Cass listened to the story silently as he explained. It made sense....she thought. Then he said, "Wait...what?" and she blinked.
"You don't know..." Realization hit her as she looked down at the floor feeling a bit of shame still of what had happened. "I-I'm pregnant..." Then she told the whole story of what happened. Tears were still going down her cheeks..
"I...wow..."
Cass shook her head and gave a small smile. "It's all right. It's over now. Besides, I have little Tyler to worry about. He was meant to happen, I just know it." She rubbed her stomach softly, looking at it. Tyler was going to be a great son, she could feel that.
Ty smiled at her. "Okay," he said softly. Then, he blinked. "Tyler?" He asked. "You...named him...after me?" He sat down as a tear rolled down his cheek.
Cass sat down next to Ty, and looked over at him. "Of course I did. Why wouldn't I?" She gave him a soft smile. "Unless you have a problem with that," she teased, nudging him lightly with her shoulder. "It was....hard on me when you died. IT was hard on Nichole, too. I thought it was appropriate."
Ty smiled back. "No...there's no problem," he said, nudging her shoulder back. He listened as she talked about his death. He felt tears run down his face. "I can imagine...I was stupid, I know. And I'm sorry." He smiled. "But I'm honored that you did that..."
Cass didn't know why she did what she did next. Maybe it was the fact that he called himself an idiot. Her hand moved back and slapped him on the face and then she pointed a finger at his nose. "You are not an idiot. Remember that, Ty." Then she blinked. "Oh....uh...sorry..." she muttered lowering her hand to her lap. She smiled back at him a little when he said he was honored that she did what she did.
Ty blinked. "It's okay..." Nichole sat next to them both and listened as they spoke.
Soon they were all laughing and having a grand old time again.

Tyler watched Ty's return. It was so confusing, yet so amazing at the same time. He was actually seeing where his name came from.
He didn't think he was going to go too much longer. Just a few more memories or so....

Cass was eating a piece of cake at Nichole's house. Nichole and Leona had both been there when she broke down about Jay. They even rescued her from his grasp and she hadn't seen much of him since. Every once in a while, they would bump into each other and it would end in her running or someone hitting him or something.
At least for now she didn't have to worry about that. Cass went over to where Nichole sat waiting for her to start the movie. "Hey, go ahead and start it. I'm going to get some soda or something." She flinched when she got a shot to the kidney.
"You okay, love?" Nichole turned her head, concern in her eyes. Cass nodded. "Kidney shot." Nichole nodded and turned back to the television. Another shot at the kidney and Cass was at the fridge. She turned back and saw what was on the t.v. It was normal. Something about being a mother.
Cass was so excited about being a mother, that she almost didn't notice the water sliding down her legs. Her feet got soaked and she looked down. "Oh, my God!"
Nichole spun in her chair. "Love? What's wrong?"
Ty had just walked in when Cass said, "Oh, My God!" Thinking it was Jay, he spun around. "Where is he?!" Then Cass spoke.
Cass looked at Nichole. "My-My water broke..." She looked at Nichole with scared eyes. Nichole's own eyes widened. "Your what?!" She leaped to her feet and tried to keep calm. "Okay, we needs to take you to the hospital! Come on, I'll help you. He isn't supposed to be early like this! A month to the day!"
Cass took a deep breath in and a deep breath out. Soon, Nichole had gotten them to the emergency room and into the delivery section. The doctors turned to Nichole and said, "We can take it from here."
Cass grabbed Nichole's hand. "Please...stay...I want you...here with me..." she said and then shouted out due to a contraction. Nichole nodded. "I'm here, love. You can pull through this."
The doctor wanted Ty to leave too, but Cass took Ty's hand. "I want....them both..." It looked like the doctor disapproved but they were let in anyway.
The doctor asked about the drugs and Cass shook her head. She wanted to be natural with this. She tightened her grip on Nichole's hand as she yelled out. "CAN I PUSH YET?!" Tears streamed down her face. The doctor shook his head. "Almost...he really wants out."
Then it was time....Cass screamed and had an iron grip on Nichole's hand, who was saying soothing words to Cass. "I WANT THE DRUGS!" She screamed out when the doctor said, "Push! Only a few more, Cassandra, then he'll be out..."
"Think about him, love. Think about how you'll be able to hold him and love him forever..." Those words made her believe she could go all the way. "I...want you...to be the godmother..." was the last thing she said before she gave all of her energy to the last push.
Two hours later, and she was holding a baby boy in her hands, Nichole standing next to her, flexing her hand, and the doctor out of the room. "Love? What are you going to call him?" Cass looked up to her and smiled.
"I had already decided that it's going to be Tyler...Tyler's such a great name." She looked up at Nichole. "What should his middle name be? My mind is boggled on that one..."
Nichole took Cass' hand and said, "Weren't you going to have a baby brother, love? Why not use his name for the middle?"
Cass looked at her for a second and then down at Ty. "Tyler Vincent....Tyler Vincent Ryonas...it fits him....I can't believe....I gave birth...to a life. I gave birth to something magical..." Nichole smiled and hugged her friend.
"Speaking of Ty, why is he so silent?" Cass looked around and then noticed him passed out on the floor. She shook her head. "Nt nt nt....what is he going to do when he decides to get married and have kids? I betcha he's going to want our help when his wife gets pregnant."
Nichole and Cass laughed quietly. "Ty...TY!"
Ty's head jerked. "Wha-?" Both girls giggled. "Did you fall asleep?"
Ty stood up and said, "I was awake the whole time, I was you know, doing the ritual for baby births."
Cass laughed. "Sure, Ty." It took a few minutes before people walked in.
"I'm sorry, who are you?" Cass asked with sleeping Tyler in her arms. The lady in front stepped towards her, Nichole and Ty watching, confused.
"I am Jackie, head of the adoption agency that you signed earlier today for little Tyler?" Cass blinked, and before she could say or do anything, Jackie picked Tyler up and said, "I would assume he's ready to go?"
Cass shook her head. "You must not understand something....I never signed any papers...." Tears started coming out of her eyes. "I want Tyler....Give me my son...please.."
Jackie shook her head. "I'm afraid I can't do that. Once the papers are signed, then it's final. The only way it can be revoked is if his adoptive parents decide not to adopt him."
"Y-You already found new parents? So soon?!" Cass panicked and Ty stood up.
Just then two new people came into her room, and Cass snapped, "And what the hell do you want?"
The woman blinked. "I'm here to pick up the baby I'm adopting. You have him named Tyler Vincent...I would like to change that to Joshua David Cunningham..."
Cass opened her mouth. They wanted to change his name, too?! Cass turned to Jackie and said, "Are you sure it was me in there?"
"Oh, you didn't come in. It was a man. Stood about six foot. Brown hair brown eyes. Said he was a family member."
Brown hair brown eyes. Six foot. Uncle Stu! "Uncle Stuart?!" The woman nodded.
H-How could he do this to me?! Cass saw the adoption people walk out and the other two start to leave.
"Wait...!" Cass got out of bed and made her way to the door.
Ty said, "What are you doing?" with a suspicious look on his face.
"Improvising, stalling, I don't know," Cass whispered.
The parents turned. "Hm?"
"Before you go, I just want to warn you. Babies keep you up all night."
"We can handle that."
"They eat a lot of food."
"We can handle that."
"Um....they cry a lot."
"We can handle that."
Cass had to think. "You have to take him to a doctor every week and it gets pricy. He might throw up on you, and he may have a disease and then what? Can you afford enough to take him to a specialized doctor?"
The two looked at each other, the woman holding Tyler.
"Here." She gave Cass the baby and Cass actually took a breath that she'd been holding in.
They walked away without another word.
"Whoa....I never thought..." Ty said, surprised at what Cass said.
Cass looked at Tyler, knowing she would do anything for him. "Me neither....he's too important to let go....I'll be a good mother. I just need to learn how. And Tyler's the one to teach me..."

Tyler watched, it disturbed him actually experiencing not just childbirth, but his own. It was more than a little unnerving. He then saw as she held him, feeling the happiness and emotion that she had.
Then came the part with the adoption. He felt pained when all this went down, and sheer relief when Cass got to keep him. He was doing pretty good on time so far, but the sooner he got done with this the better.

Cass and Tyler were at the grocery store, and they were almost ready to go. Cass had already told Tyler he could go pick out something he wanted, and so he was off finding it. It was a small town, and everyone knew who the other person was and their history there. People kept looking at Cass with a look of distaste and the ones with children were the ones who were more judgmental.
One of them even got the nerve to say something. "Have you ever thought of giving your son away? He would be much happier." Cass didn't know what was bothering them, but she didn't think much of it at the time.At least...not until she was home and there was a knock on her door.
Cass left Tyler in his room so he could play or do what he wanted when she went to the door. Three people stood there in their uniforms saying they were from social security. Handing over some papers, they said, "Cassandra Ryonas, the community feels that your son isn't getting what he needs in this house--we think you're abusing him, and he doesn't know any better. We're taking you to court to see justice done." They handed a shocked and raged Cass the papers. Without saying another word, she slammed the door.
Tyler came out of his room and asked what was in her hand. "People came by to give me something new to read is all, honey." She took a few hours reading them and she knew she had to get an attorney. But how could she afford one?
Just then she heard a phone book drop to the floor. She picked it up and looked at the page it was on and it said: "Contact Ritchie now to be your attorney, and you won't even have to pay for any services until after!" Cass thought she could do that, so she called in for an appointment.
A couple of days later, she found herself in the building, waiting. Tyler was in school, so she didn't have to worry about him at the moment. Then her name was called and she went inside.
"Hello, Miss Ryonas. My name is Ritchie and I'll be helping you with...?" Cass filled him in on what she was fighting for.
"So, you have a son and you don't want to get rid of him? I can do that. We'll work on it."
Cass said, "Okay," and signed a contract.
Every night, though, Cass would still go outside and cry. The whole situation was heartwrenching. She cried long and hard until there were no more tears to come out. If Tyler was taken away....she wouldn't be able to handle it. Simple as that. But she also couldn't handle giving him anything less than perfect, too. What would he think of his mother if he was taken away? Would he think she didn't care?
Cass didn't know. She looked at the time and realized then that court date was tomorrow morning. Instead of going to bed, she went to Tyler's bedroom, and sat down in a chair she had in there, watching him sleep. For all she knew it would be the last time. It had taken six months for the court date to arrive. Six months. She sat there all night, watching him sleep.
When it was time to go, Cass dropped Tyler off at Aunt Mariah's house, so she could watch him. Her excuse was she was going to work and she was probably going to be out late. Then she went to court, meeting Ritchie at the front. "Are you ready?"
Cass felt tears in her eyes as she could only nod. What do you mean, Am I ready?! I'm NEVER ready! But...what if they're right? All this time that I was thinking I was being a good mom to Tyler, maybe I'm the one wrong....
She wouldn't give up, though. They went inside and they were there for HOURS debating on whether or not Tyler was going to stay with Cass or go with the Suzuki family. Then later...
The judge knocked three times on her podium. "Jury, what is the verdict. Now understand, if Miss Ryonas is called guilty, Tyler Vincent Ryonas will go with the Suzuki family and Miss Ryonas will have to pay for her actions. If not guilty, she walks away free and is able to keep Tyler."
The lead person stood up and looked over at Cass, who was gripping the table and shaking, and feeling like she would cry. "Charges of child abuse.....Not guilty. Charges of child neglect....not guilty.....With votes, 7 to 5, the jury calls Miss Cassandra Raine Ryonas......NOT guilty."
Cass felt like she would collapse. Ritchie smiled at her and took her to his office to discuss payments. In the time that it had taken them to prepare, the overall cost was ten times more than rent.
"I-I can't pay all this right now....can I pay you in payments?" Ritchie shook his head. "Everything must be received in full..."
Cass couldn't believe it. "You only gave me six months. With NO idea how much it would charge."
Ritchie grinned. "That's why you save all you can. BUT...there is another way...." Cass waited. "I'll take care of the bills if you come with me tomorrow night as my date."
Cass raised an eyebrow. A date? "Ritchie, you couldn't even knock me off my feet right now...plus, isn't it against regulations?"
Ritchie laughed. "Oh, but you see? You're no longer a client. Your trial is finished. Which makes this a whole lot easier for me..." He walked over to Cass and kissed her full on the lips, a deep kiss.
When they pulled away, Cass still stood tall. "That didn't knock me off my fee-" Ritchie grabbed her waist and pulled her to him, kissing her again deeply and passionately, knocking her back against the wall and lifting her so they were at eye level. He pulled away, and still holding her waist, said, "See? I can lift you off your feet."
Cass stared at him. She had a bad bad feeling about this. "That...was technically cheating...." But she knew she had no choice, so she said that she would go to the dinner date..
And that was how their relationship began....

I can't believe it...everyone was against her. She never did anything wrong to me, and yet they were hell-bent on tearing us apart....those bastards...
This is how she met that jerk.... Ty was upset. He didn't want to go on any further. He just didn't. He'd had control of the Yeerk instinct now, but he still couldn't MAKE himself leave...like...he wanted to see more. Wanted to see more examples of his Mom's love for him. Examples of a love that has no words to describe....

Cass sighed. Carrot after carrot after carrot she cut. She hated making stew, but she still made it since she couldn't afford anything else. It was the cheapest thing out there. Then a knock on her door made her stop. Opening the door, there stood Ritchie with two suitcases.
"Uh..." Cass was glad that Tyler was at school right now. "What are you doing?" Ritchie grinned as he planted a kiss on her lips and walked inside. Cass blinked and closed the door. "Hello! I'm talking to you....can you tell me what you're doing?"
Ritchie turned to her and gave her a cruel smile that chilled Cass to the bones. He set the suitcases in her room and walked to her. "What do you think?"
Cass backed up until she was against the wall. "Look, I said all right to playing the role of your girlfriend, but that doe-"
"You want to keep your son, don't you? You know I can call people and have him taken away from you."
Cass froze. She couldn't lose Tyler....not now. Her hand fell to her side, and Ritchie knew he'd won. He walked up to her, and kissed her, pushing her against the fridge and getting his fingers entangled in her hair and pulling on it, causing her to wince in pain. He then stepped away and said, "I'm going to go unpack. You make sure you know what to tell...our son that he has a new daddy."
Cass shook her head. "Excuse me for saying this, but he's my son. Mine. He will never be yours. If you want a son, make one." She turned away, not even thinking of what she said could imply. She heard him say, "Gladly. I already have the perfect candidate for the mother..." His arms wrapped around her waist and wrists from behind and she was pulled into his large body. He was large enough to be able to crush her if he wanted to.
He did. Ritchie tightened his arm grasp until she gasped out and tears came out. Cass opened her eyes and looked at him, hatred seeping through her skin. But there was a bigger, more powerful feeling. Terror. He kissed her neck and she turned away. God help me get through this.... He pushed her onto the ground and Cass was barely able to catch herself.
Ritchie laughed a sick cruel laugh as he kicked her onto her back. She yelped. He got down on his knees and crawled over her until his knees were on either side of her hips. He placed each hand next to each side of her head and she thought of what to do. He leaned close and said, "Guess what....you're going to be a mommy to someone new..." Then he stood up and picked her up in his arms, tucking her arms in between their bodies. He tossed her on the bed and locked the door. She went to get up and Ricky's hand knocked her back down again, keeping its grip on her throat. He grinned when she tried to yell. "Let GO of me!"
Cass felt the pain when Ricky used his knee on her chest to keep her down. She tried to use her strength to force her arms down when he put them above her head. It didn’t work as she felt cuffs secure her arms. Then he looked at her with a strange look, as if he was thinking of what to do.
“What are you going to do?” She asked, voice sounding rough. He grinned. “Well, I’m going to prove…” He got up over her and said, “Just how much of a whore you are.” Then he kissed her, moving his hands to go under her shirt and up to her chest. Cass felt repulsed as he ripped her shirt, and then did what he did next….
[BLACKOUT]
Cass woke up a few hours later, and she felt guilt. She was beaten down. Standing up, she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror. This was who she was becoming? She wasn't even sure she knew who she was anymore. Her body was being used as an object.
You have a reason for it.... one side of her mind said. The other was protesting, that she knew she could take care of Ritchie, and still be able to keep Tyler.
Cass was thinking about that as she got a new shirt on and the rest of her clothes. She covered her neck with a scarf and used sunglasses over her eyes. She just remembered that she was going to an event that Tyler was in. She wanted to be sure the bruises weren't seen.
They went out, and Tyler asked her why she was wearing all the extra clothing. "I'm a little chilly right now, Tyler. I'll take them off if it gets too hot." The words sounded almost like they were coming from somewhere else. She couldn't believe she was lying.
Everything went smoothly while they were out. Cass dreaded going home though. Ritchie had a routine going. Taunt, abuse, sleep together, boss her around, and repeat. And if she got a bruise...extra clothes until it disappeared.
Every. Single. Night.
******** One Night, a year and a half after he moved in, it happened....
Cass was making some late night snack for Ritchie, and she kept her eyes on the ground. Having been with him for a year and a half, she always knew what was coming. Ritchie sat up and started eating the bologna sandwich, watching her. "Come, sit with me." Silently Cass obeyed in her blue nightgown and black boots, having to put shoes on to go to the kitchen due to glass shattering the day before, and he put his hand on her lower back when he finished. After a moment, Ritchie told her to take the plate into the kitchen. Cass knew he was biding his time, and was probably going to check to make sure Ty was asleep. Cass hoped that he was. He then wouldn't have to see what she would be going through on her own with Ritchie. Cass came back into the room and Ritchie said in a gruff voice, "Your son is asleep. Don't worry...he'll never know the truth..." He walked over to her and pushed a strand of her hair back, smiling evilly. Then he kissed her on the lips, forcing his tongue into her mouth as she pushed back. He leaned back, "What, you don't like that? Makes it better for me..." Cass was about to shout when he said, "Remember our deal? You stay with me and stay quiet, and your little Tyler will stay alive and stay in that wonderful big school." Cass hung her head, wondering again why she was given a son when it was so obvious she wasn't worthy. Cass let herself be pushed onto the bed and it would be a couple of hours before she got up. Two Hours Later Cass slowly woke from her slumber and went to grab a glass of water. Ritchie rose from his position into a sitting one, and asked, "Where do you think you're going?" "To get a glass of water." "Not without my permission, you're not!" Ritchie got on his feet because apparently Cass didn't hear him. She was in the kitchen, setting down a glass when he roughly grabbed her shoulder and spun her around. "Don't. You. EVER. Walk. Away. From. Me. Again." Then he began to drag her back to her room. Suddenly angered, Cass stomped on his foot and said, "If I want water, I'll have it." Then briskly walked away. Ritchie stared at her for a moment, before saying, "You're despicable, you know that? You'll never make a good mother for Ty. I should go take him to the adoption center now, so he wouldn't have to suffer..." Cass felt like she'd just been hit by a bus. Those words...hurt...a lot...she wanted to be the best mother she could for Tyler. Was it true? Was it better for him to get adopted? She didn't know what to think. Before she could react, Ritchie's arms wrapped around her and he was kissing her neck and rubbing her sides, his hands finding his way underneath her clothing. "But it's all right baby," he kissed her on the lips, "I'll take good care of Ty for you while you pay the bills.." Cass pushed him away, and the next thing she knew a fist hit her right on the eye and she collapsed on the ground. She looked up to see Ritchie angrier than she'd ever seen him. Grabbing her arm, Ritchie forced her on her feet and pushed her back against the wall, coming so close to her, that there was no more room between them. "You'll regret that, bitch." Cass struggled against his hold, feeling pain in her lower part of her body. She was being raped in her own kitchen! She bit his ear and he fell back. She had just gotten back on her feet when Ritchie's hands grabbed her by the throat, cutting air from her lungs. She gasped for breath and scratched at him, kicked at him, did anything she could think of to get him off of her. He lifted her off of the ground and brought her to him. She really hated the height difference right about then..."Don't worry," Ritchie grinned..."I'll take wonderful care of your son after you die tonight...He may even be a lawyer like me..." Cass struggled until no energy was left in her. Her hand dropped to her side and her feet dangled in thin air, closing her eyes.... Then...she felt herself being dropped to the floor and heard Ritchie yell out. What? Who co-Tyler...Oh God... Panic set into her as she looked up to see Ritchie getting close to him. Then....Tyler stuck scissors into the back of Ritchie's leg. Ritchie felt a sharp pain on his leg, blood gushing out of the wound, and the scissors protruding out of his leg. "ARRRGH!!!!" He glared down at the eleven year old, and went to grab him, wanting to throw him out a window. Cass gasped for breath at that moment, and got up. Ritchie hadn't noticed her yet. She felt her eye...swollen....she grabbed a vase, held it high over her head, and threw it at Ritchie's full force, causing her to fall on her rear end and slide against the wall. Ritchie was out for the count...Cass tried to get oxygen. "T-Ty?" she forced the words. "D-Don't come out, okay? I-I need to make a phone call..." Cass didn't want him to come out because of how she looked. Beaten down... I don't want to scare him any more than he already is...I'm ashamed....I brought this man into our lives and look what happened...some mother I am...Cass grunted when reaching for the phone. She felt a lot of pain inside her, but quickly called 9-1-1 and quietly gave them the facts and such. Then she set the phone down next to her and crawled to the next room, grabbing a couple blankets. She slowly got on her feet, covered Ritchie with one, so not to see the blood and covered herself, enough to hide the bruises already forming on her eye and her neck. Cass was worried when she heard Tyler crying. "Ty? You can come out now...Come here, sweetie..." She held her arms open, welcoming him into her arms. Right now her terror of what had happened was pushed aside, and she was more worried about her son. But don't you see what's happening? a voice inside her head said. He had to rescue you. Not the other way around. What kind of parent are you? She forced herself to ignore the voice, and called out to Ty again. "Ty, that man will not hurt us anymore." Cass wrapped her arms around him when he jumped in her arms and breathed a sigh of relief. Her little boy was alive, and okay. "I love you, too, honey..."She felt him shaking, and hugged him closer. Cass started singing to him while they waited for the police. "Oh why you look so sad The tears are in your eyes Come on and come to me now Don’t be ashamed to cry Let me see you through Cause I’ve seen the dark side too
When the night falls on you You don't know what to do Nothing you confess Could make me love you less
I’ll stand by you I’ll stand by you Won’t let nobody hurt you I’ll stand by you
So if you're mad get mad Don’t hold it all inside Come on and talk to me now Hey, what you got to hide I get angry too Well I’m a lot like you
When you're standing at the crossroads And don't know which path to choose Let me come along Cause even if you're wrong
I’ll stand by you I’ll stand by you Won’t let nobody hurt you I’ll stand by you Take me in into you darkest hour And I’ll never desert you I’ll stand by you
And when, when the night falls on you, baby You feeling all alone You won't be on your own
I’ll stand by you I’ll stand by you Won’t let nobody hurt you I’ll stand by you Take me in into you darkest hour And I’ll never desert you I’ll stand by you
Oh I’ll stand by you I’ll stand by you"Throughout the song Cass rocked them both back and forth, for both their comforts. She hid how scared she was. She wanted Ty to feel safe; she wanted to prove Ritchie wrong. But how can I when everything I've done so far has been proving him right?Cass smiled a little when her cheek was kissed. She continued rocking him, humming the song once more, until the police arrived and took Ritchie away. They didn't ask any questions, just told her they'd contact her later. Cass carried Ty in her arms and said, "You want to sleep in your own bed, or do you want to sleep with me tonight?" Considering the fact that since Ritchie had moved in a year ago, he wasn't allowed near their room, she had a feeling she would know the answer. And she was right. Cass looked into her son's eyes, and knew that he would be different..."Of course you can sleep with me tonight, sweetheart...He's not around anymore....it's no longer up to him what's allowed and what isn't...and you can come sleep with me anytime you'd like..." Cass climbed into bed, the blanket still covering her bruises, and held Ty close to her. "I love you. And...I'm proud of you, Tyler....Very proud..." Cass held him close as she began to drift off to sleep slowly. Then he asked her a question and she opened her eyes, not even realizing that her neck was slowly being revealed. "Mom? Why did he do that? Are there others like him out there?" "I'm not sure why he did what he did, honey. He has some problems with anger. He just took it all out on your mommy tonight. Being at the wrong place at the wrong time as they say." Cass sighed. "I would hope there wouldn't be, but yes, there are more people out there like him," she said, being honest. "But most people aren't. Most people like to live normal happy lives...so the chances of meeting more like him are very slim for us. We don't have to worry any more." She kissed his forehead. Cass felt tears threatening to come out as she felt his arms wrap around her. "Yes, sweetheart, we'll always be here for each other..." She watched as he drifted off to sleep. Cass looked up at the mirror and saw the bruises that were left behind from Ritchie. She could...no....Ty would notice something different...so she rested her head and fell into a nice sleep, feeling more relaxed and at peace then she had been in a year and a half.

Ty wanted to get sick. It was just so horrible to watch. And....it made him glad he'd killed Ritchie.
It was almost too much to bear. It was bad enough remembering HIS part of that memory, now, his mom's was a part of him too...

Cass tossed and turned in her bed. She was running in her dream. Running from a black tiger in her dream that she knew it was Jay. She knew what happened after the tiger caught up with her. She would get kidnapped and tortured, all in hopes of destroying the life growing inside of her. She couldn't wake up until it was all over.
Cass ran as fast as she possibly could, tears in her eyes. What was Jay going to do when he caught her? Then he was in front of her, knocking her down. He demorphed, grabbed her, took her to the cave, and tortured her. This dream...showed something different. It always did. It played with her fears. Her biggest fear: losing Tyler. And tonight the dream focused on that fear as she kept dodging Jay. Then, it happened. He caught up to her, pushed her against the wall, and laughed. "Say goodbye to your child..." Then he lifted his knife and shot it down towards her...
Cass woke up then. She always did. She had shot up in her bed. Emotion seemed to sweep over her, as she broke down and cried. She tucked her knees close to her and crossed her arms over them, leaning her head down and rocking back and forth. Every time she dreamed and/or had a nightmare about Jay, she cried. That was always how Ty knew she was dreaming and or having a nightmare about her past, whenever he woke up. She hoped she didn't this time. This had been the worst one yet. She actually broke down. Her tears couldn't stop. They wouldn't...
Soon she felt a hand touch her arm. She didn’t have to turn to know it was Tyler. Cass willed her tears to stop, but she hadn't had this dream in a while; she'd always had others, when everything was all right between her and Jay, and she cried because she missed those. When she felt a hand on her shoulder she looked up, her eyes swollen from crying so hard. It was Ty, as she knew it would be.
Cass didn't know what to do; if she was ever in any physical pain, she wouldn't cry. When it came to stuff like this, she did cry. She usually didn't say anything when Ty came in, but she felt she had to explain something. It came out in a sob. "W-What did I do wrong?" and she broke down all over again. In one night it seemed she was falling apart.
I...I don't know..." he said shakily. "I don't see where you've done ANYTHING wrong..." His voice got serious. "Mom...I've seen you cry for a while now, but never like this...I know something's bothering you, and think it's time you get this off your chest."
Tyler had slipped his arm around her and pulled her into a hug as he spoke.
Cass repositioned herself so she could hug Ty and she leaned her head against his shoulder. Then Ty spoke to her. She was slightly afraid to tell him the truth about his father, and all that he's done. Even though it was Jay who kidnapped her and Jay who had done everything to her, she had always blamed herself for the problems, much like others would do in her situation.
She decided to try and say something else. "I-It was your father...in that dream." She stopped crying momentarily and she felt relief, but as soon as her eyes closed, she saw Jay's smile, his face, which then distorted into one of someone evil, and she started right back up again.
Tyler comfortingly rubbed her back when she started crying again.
"Mom...I...I know it's hard, but you'll never beat this thing by holding it in. If you don't want to talk, I understand." He paused, lifting her chin to look her in the eye. "I want you to know that I'm ready to listen whenever you're ready to talk." he then hugged her again. "No matter what, Mom, I love you."
Maybe it was the “No matter what, Mom, I love you,” that did her in. Cass knew Ty was right, but what would he think when she told him the story she had told him about her and his father wasn't true? Soon she felt Ty lifting her chin up and she looked him in the eye. "All right."
She hugged him back and didn't want to let go, but knew for this she would have to. "Ty...your mother has made some bad decisions in the past. I think this is by far the worst one. I lied to you." Cass knew he was going to be surprised, and it stung when he asked the questions.
Cass felt her heart start to tear when he asked the questions. She looked down at her hands, the tears falling on them. "The truth behind your father...I feel like it's my fault, somehow. Leona and Nichole both warned me that he would hurt me, and I ignored them. He seemed to be a really nice guy, and I fell in love with him."
She sighed, tears never quitting. "It wasn't meant to be, I found out the night after we slept together. He found out I was friends with Leona, and he hated that. I still don't understand why." She shook her head. "When he found out I was pregnant with you, it made things worse....I was walking down the street alone one day, I was about three months along, when-when-" and she broke down again. She couldn't seem to go on right at that moment. "I-I'm so so sorry." She couldn’t hold it in any longer.
Tyler spoke and told her that he still loved her and he understood why she lied. Cass held onto Ty tightly as he spoke and she said, "I wouldn't have lied, if I knew where he was. I just don't want you to do anything that'll get you hurt, okay?" Her tears seemed to have finally gone away, when she pulled back.
"I don't know, Ty. I believe there's still that same old Jay I knew inside him. And who knows, maybe he left to change for the better. I like to be optimistic. Is that bad?"
"No, it's actually a good thing," Ty said, wiping his eyes. "You always look out for me, and I thank you for that. Look, it's not bad to try and find the good in people. You have a way of looking at someone and seeing the good things, and I admire that about you."
His tone then darkened. "But, I don't I'd ever want to meet him, even if he's changed. Especially now. He hurt you before, and I'm not gonna let it happen again. You're all I've got, and no one is taking you from me."
Cass smiled at the compliments she was getting from her son. "I'm glad I have you for my son. I don't know what I'd do without you." She hugged him again. She sighed as she stood up. "What time is it anyway?"
Cass nodded. "I understand that, hun. But maybe the fact that he's been in prison for ten years now could have changed him so much he isn't like he was. Besides, I'm much more aware of signs and warnings than I was younger. I don't think he'll be around for a long while."
Ty smiled. "Thanks, Mom. And you know I'd be lost without you, too." He looked at the clock on the wall. "It's 2:25 in the morning," he said as he hugged her back.
"I know, Mom. I'm sorry for feeling that way, but I just can't imagine someone treating you like that. I....just don't want to see you hurt again." He pulled back and kissed her cheek. Goodnight, Mom. See you tomorrow." He grinned before leaving.
Cass smiled. "I know. Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere." She gave him one last hug and a kiss on the forehead. "2:15? I only had three hours of sleep? Man, I only have three left to catch."
Cass thought it so sweet that her son cared that much. "Thanks, Ty. Good night. I'll see you at breakfast." She watched him leave before she crawled into her own bed to fall asleep.
She didn’t fall asleep though, not for a long while. Her mind was drifting to the different things people have been saying about her being a mother. “I don’t know…was it better for him to go somewhere? Will I ever get answers?” She looked in the mirror, her laying in bed there. “What kind of mother am I…lying to him like that…” she whispered before she closed her eyes to at least try to go to sleep.

Ty couldn't believe this. The nightmare was horrible. He just couldn't grasp that this was what Cass dealt with when she had nightmares.
He was just glad he was there to help her feel better. He didn't want to know what she'd do without him.

Cass was on lunch break. She felt sudden relief from it all. She had collapsed during class again, for the third time that week. A sign showing she's being overworked or she was overworking herself. She kept on going though. She had Ty to think about.
She walked further on the streets, and it seemed no one was around. She was just turning the corner when she bumped into someone. That someone said, "Oof!" and then apologized.
Cass felt slight deja vu when she grabbed onto the man to keep him from falling, much like when she met Jay. "Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention!." She looked at him and he looked familiar.
"Um...have we met?"
"Um...have we? You look familiar." She had a look of confusion as her hands kept resting on his arms. "I'm Cassandra. Cass for short. Or Sandra, I suppose, though no one uses that one. How about you? You look like you could be a Jason? Sorry...long day at work. Pardon my rambling."
He really does look familiar....where have I seen him?
The man smiled. "Cass...you hit it dead on. My name is Jason. Jason McRaem but you can call me Jay."
He gently touched her cheek. "It's been a long time, hasn't it, Cass? You know, it's been what? Over 10 years?" He smiled again.
Cass gasped. It was Jay?! She stared at him for a moment and hardly caught his words. Despite the fact that she had felt there was something good inside Jay, she couldn't help but feel afraid. She needed to get a grip on herself.
Cass slowly stepped back. "Yes, it has been over ten years. When did they let you out of jail? And what do you want with me this time?"
"Not long ago actually," Jay answered, then paused. "Well, It's actually a surprise to see you here. I wasn't expecting it."
His tone softened. "Look, I know I wasn't a great person towards you, but it's been 10 years. Can't ya give a guy another chance?" He gave her a hurt look. Cass looked at him with slight disbelief. "How can I give you another chance? Have you really changed that much since we've been apart?" She looked at him. "I mean, you kidnapped me and tried killing my son. Why would I give you another chance after that?!"
Why always the look? It always makes me buy it and forgive them. No, I can't....I can't....okay, maybe I can... The look on his face was what sold her. The hurt look as if he regretted everything he did. "Y-You're serious, aren't you? You really want to start over?"
"Yes, Cass. I want to start over. I regret everything I did to you. I want to make it right."
Should I believe him? He really did change....of course I should.
He looked at her. "You're just as beautiful as you've always been," he said softly. He didn't have to say that....he won, does he not see that?
"Cass, will you give me another chance?" With that, he leaned in and gave her a soft kiss. "Please?"
Cass blushed at what Jay said and she looked him in the eye. "Prove it to me," she said softly. Though her guard was slowly melting as she kept looking at him.
Cass returned the soft kiss and said softly, "Okay...how do you want to start this?" She held his hand, and gave him another soft kiss. She couldn't believe what was happening. What would Ty think?
Jay said he knew a good place to start and the next thing she knew, Cass was kissing him back deeply, feeling the familiar feeling of losing control over her senses.
Then they talked a little more, and Jay walked her to her work, waiting for her to get out.
"Whew. Busy busy. You ready?" She asked as she walked up to Jay. "I don't live that far." She linked her arm with his as she led the way. Jay nodded and they walked to Cass' house.
Soon Cass and Jay got to her house, and she saw at the moment Ty wasn't home. She turned to him. "Well, here we are. This is my lovely home." She sounded a bit sarcastic but she still smiled.
"I'd let you in but I think Ty may be coming home soon, and I don't think it'd be a good idea right now for you two to meet." She remembered what Ty had told her when she had had that horrible nightmare...
Jay said that would be fine and then said that he thought they had time. Cass blinked until she heard/read the note.
Mom, Went out. Be back at around 7. With love, Ty
[/i] Cass listened to Jay for a minute and then nodded. "Okay, so we do have time. Want to come in?" With that she came inside and said, "It's not much, but it's better than what I had to live in when we first met." She walked into the kitchen and asked, "Do you want something to drink?" She looked over at him, her blue eyes twinkling. "Okay, so we do have time. Want to come in?" With that she came inside and said, "It's not much, but it's better than what I had to live in when we first met." She walked into the kitchen and asked, "Do you want something to drink?" She looked over at him, her blue eyes twinkling. Jay looked around. "Well, I don't have much of anywhere to stay right now," he said looking down. "Well, if I can find my friend, he'll hook me up with a place to stay, so no worries there." He sat down on the couch. "Drink? No thanks, I'm alright." Jay was running out of things to say, so he added, "How's our son, by the way?" Cass looked at Jay with concern on her face. "Place to stay? I'd offer, but again, Ty..." She shrugged. "He kinda knows...what happened to us before." She grabbed a soda of her own and closed the door. Sitting next to him on the couch she looked at him. "He's good. He looks a lot like you. Acts a lot like you, too. You know, before you decided to...yeah." Before you were being a total asshole. It was actually when you were caring. Inwardly, she hit herself. Quit being bitter... "He has my eyes and smile though. I've been noticing a lot more." She smiled at him. Jay nodded. "I understand," he said. "But like I said, I'll have something worked out. Everything'll be fine." He smiled at Cass's description of Ty. "Sounds like a cool kid. Like me, only with a beautiful smile and eyes." He then leaned in and kissed her passionately, wrapping his arms around her. Cass smiled. "That's good. Glad you'll have it all figured out." She heard what he told her and she was surprised until she was getting kissed. She returned the kiss and wrapped her own arms around him. What the hell, Mom? Her eyes shot open and she pulled away from Jay. "Tyler?! I-I thought you would be home at seven?!" She stared at him in disbelief and thought, Shit... "Um, Ty, this is Jay; Jay, this is Ty." She hoped Ty didn't realize that Jay was his father. Jay jumped when he heard Ty's voice. "Oh, I take it this is our son?" Jay said, hopping up and extending his hand. "Nice to finally meet ya." Ty ignored Jay's outstretched hand. "That's my father?!? I can't believe this! I...I just don't believe it...it's..." Ty let out an angry sigh. "You CAN'T be serious. Mom...Tell me you're joking...." Ty's bright blue eyes were pleading as tears started to well up and his face flushed. Jay just stood speechless, eyes swapping from Ty to Cass. Cass stood frozen to the spot when Jay jumped up and wanted to shake Ty's hand. She bit her lip and looked at Ty with a hurt expression. "I didn't expect it to happen, honey. We just ran into each other and I could tell that he's changed...he's changed a lot. Please..." It seemed like she was begging. She wasn't sure what caused her to do what she did next, but Cass turned to Jay and said a bit harsh, "Not our son, Jay. My son. I took care of him without you, all these years...he may be biologically your son, but he isn't really....not yet..." She felt tears of her own wanting to fall because she knew she may lose Ty's trust over this Jay nodded. "I understand. Look, I was messed up. I know that. But I wanna make things right." "I understand, Mom. I just don't agree with this, is all. I mean, you can't know a person has changed just by spending one day with them. Fronts are easy to put up. Maybe I'll feel better about this but, it's gonna take some time." "You just need to be more trusting, and not cling to her so much..." "NEVER SAY THAT! MOM IS ALL I HAVE BECAUSE YOU HAD TO BE A BASTARD! AND NOW YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST WALTZ IN AND TRY TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT???" Ty's voice went from a yell, to a tone of cold bitterness. "We've lived 18 years without you. And frankly, I could've gone the rest of my life without meeting you...." Cass heard the words coming from both Jay and Ty were saying and had her thoughts of what she would say, but she felt a little woozy just then. She didn't show it, though. When Jay mentioned the word cling, she inwardly pouted, But I like the clingy. Then Ty yelled at him and went to cold bitterness. To say the least, Cass was shocked. She was about to say something, but all she got out was "T-Tyler..." before she felt her knees buckle and the ground come rushing at her head, before blackness engulfed her. Cass felt that the couch was underneath her a few minutes after she passed out. "Grngh..." She grunted as she slowly came to. "Tyler?" She looked to her side and saw him. "Hey." She smiled at him. She noticed that Jay was gone, but she thought it would be for the best anyways. Cass stood up and stretched. "Are you all right?" She asked him. Her eyes showed concern because of how he blew up at Jay. She walked into the kitchen and grabbed two sodas, handing one to Ty. "Am I Okay?" He asked, smiling. "The question is, Are you? You scared the crap outta me, mom!" I'm just glad you're alright. When she gave him the soda, he set it down and hugged her. "I'm so sorry for acting that way. I just have a bad feeling about him. I...don't want to see you hurt again....you understand, right?" Cass laughed a little and nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine. It's not like it's the first time it's happened, after all." She realized what she said a split second later and drank some of her soda. She gave him a hug back and said, "It's all right. I do understand, really. I wouldn't be your mother if I didn't...You have every right to act that way." Ty sat down on the couch, confused. "Um....what do you mean that wasn't the first time? You do that often?" Both Ty's voice and his eyes showed that he was worried as he drank some of his soda. "I feel so bad for acting that way...whether I had the right to or not..." Then he changed the subject back. "Seriously, you pass out a lot? Why haven't you told me? You know I worry...." Cass gulped and sat down next to him. "It's just that when I'm a little over-stressed. I pass out. Mainly my boss at the hair salon is a major pain in the-" She coughed. "Anyways, I'm used to it by now." "That's it exactly. I didn't want you to worry about me, Tyler. It's nothing new. It happens almost every day. When I wake up, I just get back to my business. I'll be fine." She took his hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. "I understand," Ty said gently squeezing her hand back. "But I can't help but worry about you. You're all I've got, and I don't want to lose you." He finished his soda and lay his head on her shoulder. "I'm a little protective, I know. I just can't help it...." "You'll never lose me. Not for a long while. That's a promise." She sat there in silence for a moment before he rested his head on her shoulder. She rested her arm around his shoulder and gave him a side hug. "I'm just as protective as you are, honey. You know that. You get the protectiveness from me." Ty snuggled his Mom a bit, like he hadn't done since he was a little kid. Even at 18, he felt safe with his Mom's arm around him. Almost like nothing would be able to separate them. "I know, Mom. But your being protective of me tells me just how much you really care," he said as he closed his eyes. Cass felt Ty snuggle and she smiled. "You know, you snuggle like I used to do, as well." She hugged him sideways as best as she could and leaned back on the couch bringing him along with, gently. "That goes both ways, Tyler. Both ways..." She, too closed her eyes as she held onto Ty, feeling like nothing in the world could make them part. [/color]
