Marco was doing his part and setting the table. Even though she probably would never HAVE to work, his wife was working late, and so it had been up to the husband to prepare dinner. The girls were supposed to be in their room doing homework until dinner got ready, and Marco trusted them to be doing just that...sort of. He knew they might not be, but he also figured as long as they got the homework done in the end, it was fine.
He finished setting the table and went to check on the meal he was making. He'd gotten pretty good at cooking when it had been just him and his father in his childhood. Tonight's menu was Lasagna and salad. The Lasagna still had a few minutes left till it would be done, so Marco made his way to the living room where he sat down to chill in front of the television.
Laura, meanwhile, was doing just what was expected of her. She was sitting on her bed, chewing the end of her pencil as she struggled over a particularly hard math problem. The eigth grader let out a soft sigh. Maybe her older sister could help her out...
She got to her feet, book in tow and made her way down the hall to Eva's room, knocking on the door, "Hey, Eva?"

Eva was sitting, twiddling her thumbs, thinking about the math homework. She sighed and opened the window. She turned on some music and started dancing to it, because math was just not going to do it. She heard a knock on the door, and a "Hey Eva," and she turned down the music. "Come in." She knew it was her sister, Laura. She turned to face her. "What's up?"

"You had Miss Cartwright last year, right?" Laura asked, refering to her math teacher as she made her way to sit on her sister's bed, eyeing the abandoned math book that lay there, "You think you could give me a hand with my homework...since apparantly your done with yours."
Okay, that last jab may have been out of line. And Laura knew full well that her sister hadn't been finished with her homework....just as she was sure Eva knew that she SHOULD be doing her homework.
Marco flipped through the channels. Old Star Trek movie...click...some new romantic comedy....click...an old movie about the Animorphs....quick click.
He didn't want his children knowing what a dangerous life he had lead. The Animorphs were historical figures, sure. His kids probably knew they had a famous father...but it was a subject that wasn't discussed in the house.

Eva's eye twinkled. "Yeah I had her last year. Come, sit. I'll get my homework done eventually. I hope. Was just about to start my history report on something called the Animorphs...Gonna ask Dad for help." She motioned at a seat. "Let's take a look-see."

Laura took a seat beside her sister. At the mention of the Animorphs she tilted her head to the side, "Animorphs? I think I remember hearing about them somewhere before....I mean, at least hearing the name. They're pretty big heros or something, right?"
She pointed to the math problem that was giving her trouble, "Anyways, we just started Algebra, which is a pain. Numbers are for math, not the alphabet. But this one is giving me the trouble, 25x + 10 / 5=..."
Marco turned the television off again. There was nothing good on, and dinner should be ready now anyway. He made his way to the kitchen and pulled the lasagna out of the oven. The heat warmed his hand even through his oven mitt. He took a knife and sliced the small lasagna into four equal pieces, there would be one left for his wife when she arrived home.

Eva giggled. "I know the feeling. I didn't know there were 4 a's, ma'am. I told her that once before. She threw a fit." She looked at the problem, "Well, this is how you do it...first you take this...and add it with this..." She showed Laura how to do it. "Be glad it isn't Geometry." She eyed her homework in disgust. "Anyways, are there any other probs that I could help you with?"

"Eva, Laura, it's dinner time!" Marco called up to his daughters as he placed the Lasagna on the dining room table, along with a large bowl of Salad, already tossed with Kraft Italian dressing. He took his seat, beside which was an empty spot that would normally be filled by his wife.
"Actually, yeah. This whole thing is just giving me problems." Laura smiled at her sister and was about to point out the next question she was having trouble with when she heard her father call to them, "Looks like it'll have to wait, Eva."

"Yeah, let's go eat. I need to talk to Dad about the Animorphs anyways." She stood up and stretched. "Maybe by some miracle, I can get out of doing that homework. It's supposed to be at least two pages." She smiled. "Race you!"

"Asking dad would be a good thing. I think he was around our age when that whole thing happened anyways." Laura agreed with a nod. At the mention of racing however she rolled her eyes, "A race, really? How imature can you-"
She didn't finish her sentence, though, as she was already running down the hall towards the staircase.

"I agree. He may be a walking 'Animorphs' book." Eva saw her sister run ahead. "Hey, no fair!" She slid down the stair rails and landed on her butt. "Oof! Okay, not so much a good idea." She finally took her spot at the table and said, "Mmm...this looks delicious, Dad." She looked at it with excitement.

Marco heard a loud thump followed by an "oof" as his elder daughter landed on her rear. He rolled his eyes and laughed, knowing that she probably wouldn't try that again.
At her compliment on the meal presentation, he grinned, "Well, after all, I am a world class chef! Even if your mother doesn't always agree!"
Marco began dishing up the food, placing a square of Lasgna on each of their plates. They could help themselves to the salad if they wanted.
Laura hurried down the stairs, only to see her sister zoom past on the rail, and land on her but. The younger girl doubled over in laughter at the sight. This bought her sister enough time to get up and take off toward the table again.
"Hey!" Laura shouted with a giggle, racing after Eva, who beat her to the table by several seconds. Panting and out of breath Laura slid into her seat, licking her lips as she eyed the meal.

"Okay, you two. Laugh all you want. That hurt." Eva pouted. She laughed at the chef comment. "The best one I know, Dad. The best one I know." She got herself a little salad, turned to her father, and asked, "So, Dad, I have a history teacher, Ms. Krabbs, and she wants us to do an assignment. I need your help. Could you help me?"

Laura began dishing out her salad, jabbing her fork into it as she smirked at her sister, still amused by the crash landing she had taken. She placed the forkful of salad into her mouth and chewed a moment before saying to her father, "She's actually doing her homework, you should help!"
"Actually doing her work?" Marco quirked a brow and looked to Eva, "'Actually'? What's that supposed to mean, hmm? But, sure. Let's hear this assignment. I wasn't the greatest at history, but maybe I can help."

She gave a look of disbelief at them both. "I don't believe you two! I can do my work!" She crossed her arms in feigned anger and then said, "You should. It's around the time you were our age. What are the Animorphs? I'm thinking the term might mean 'Idiot Teenagers with a Death Wish.' It has to be at least two pages."

Marco took a bit of his salad, and choked on it at hearing the term Animorphs. He coughed and reached for his drink to wash down the salad, his eyes wide. Once he had finished choking he shook his head with a small smile crossing his features
"Man, I knew you guys would get to that sooner or later," He chuckled and grinned at his eldest daughter, "Yeah, Idiot Teenagers with a Death wish sums it up...but I thought Animorphs sounded better. Go figure, it stuck. I was really hoping to never have to tell you about it though...oh well."
Laura's eyes went wide at her father's sudden choke at the mention of Animorphs, she'd learned the hiemlike at school during a safety seminar, but since he was coughing, she figured she wouldn't have to use it. She watched as he took a drink.
Her own eyes widened as he spoke, her features shifting to a look of suprise as it dawned on her what he was saying, "Woah! Dad!"
