(This takes place after everything that has happened thus far.)
Cassie looked up at the clock and saw that it was time to go home to her family. As she was about to log off, her boss came walking in, and said, "Cassie, I'm sorry."
Cassie looked at her boss in a bit of confusion and said, "For what?"
The boss sat down in one of Cassie's office chairs and said, "Martin just quit. He's in charge of the alien vacation and movie set plan, and he's nowhere near getting the paperwork done. Do you think you could do some overtime tonight to help me finish it? It will take at least a couple of hours." Her eyes danced around a little nervously.
Cassie bit her lip. Her boss usually didn't act nervous, but maybe that was because the due date was tomorrow. Was it tomorrow? Cassie couldn't remember. She had thought that it was next week.
"Why did Martin quit?" That thought occurred to her. Martin had been working with Marco on Marco's latest action movie. So why would he quit?
"Oh, something about not getting enough benefits." The boss shooed it off with her hand. "Please, Cassie? I need you right now. I'll make it up to you. I promise."
Cassie shook her head. "Fine. I have to let Jake know. Can I see the paperwork?"
"Of course, dear. I'll be right back." She left the office.
Cassie sat down in her office chair. "I really don't want to stay here." She had a bad feeling about it. Her boss was acting different. Maybe she should call Marco and see if he's heard from Martin.
But first, she would call Jake. She dialed the home phone number on her work phone and waited.
The boss walked down the hall and went into Martin's office. "Martin. The paperwork?"
Martin looked up at her and asked, "Is the plan working?"
"Oh, very well. She will be one of us in no time. Now, there are no mistakes, Eredo?"
"None, Hereta."
"Good."
