Jay strolled up to Cass' house. They had been seeing each other for five months, and she didn't suspect a thing. Ty, though, he felt was a little suspicious. No matter, both would be out of his way soon enough.
He had a big grin on his face, and a spring in his step. He walked up to the door and knocked, waiting for Cass to answer. His right hand was in his pocket, holding the ring he had for her. Today was a big day...

Cass was reading the newspaper, the comics to be exact. She heard the knock and wondered who it could be. Glancing at her clock she wondered if she forgot to go to one of her jobs.
Cass walked to the door and opened it. "Jay? What are you doing here? I thought we were meeting somewhere tomorrow?"

Jay smiled. "I know. I couldn't wait that long," he said, kissing her. "I just had to see you today. Is that so wrong?"
He grinned again, easily masking his true plans. Glancing around the room, he asked, "Is Ty out?"

Cass smiled as she kissed him back before letting him inside. "No, it's not so wrong. It's just so surprising."
Cass smiled back at him, love shining in her eyes. She looked at him as he glanced around and then said, "He's taking a nap. He just got a job you know."

Jay laughed a little as Cass let him inside. "At least it's a good surprise, right?" he asked with a grin.
"Sleeping? Oh, well, I don't want to wake him. He already doesn't seem to like me much," Jay said. Better make this quick...don't want the brat ruining this... With that, his right hand left his pocket, and he dropped to his knee, slipping the ring onto her finger. "Cass....Will you marry me?"

Cass agreed. "It's a great surprise." She closed the door and looked around the house, afraid it looked too messy.
"He'll warm up to you, I..." Cass's jaw dropped when she saw what Jay was doing. "I-I..." Tears swelled up in her eyes as she smiled with glee and jumped at him. "YES! YES! GOD, YES JAY! I WILL MARRY YOU!"
Cass couldn't believe it as the swarm of happiness was taking over her, making her want to shout to the world that she was getting married finally after so many years...
It was a dream come true...

Jay stood to his feet, catching Cass as she jumped at him. He smiled at her excitement. Just as gullible as she was when we were kids... His brown eyes twinkled as he planted a kiss on her.
Ty groaned, waking from his sleep. He then became aware of what woke him up. Mom? Jay? MARRIED? He let out a sigh. Rolling out of bed, he walked into the living room and straight to Jay, who broke the kiss. Ty stretched out his hand. "....Um...Congratulations..." Ty said before very softly muttering, "...I guess..."

Cass kissed him back and then stepped back as Ty went up to Jay and said, "Uh...Congratulations...I guess..." Even if he wasn't behind it, she knew he was supporting her decision.
The fact that Ty did that, Cass felt more pride swell inside her. Yes, Ty was the best kid she could have ever hoped for. She loved him to death, and would never let him go.
Though now she didn't know what to do..."Well....now what?"

Jay firmly shook Ty's hand, and Ty weakly returned the handshake. Jay smiled fakely, and Ty could see right through it. But, for his Mom, Ty didn't say anything. Ty walked back to his room and went back to sleep. He was just going to have to keep an eye on Jay. If he tried to do anything to hurt Cass, Ty would be there.
Jay shrugged as Ty left. "Actually, I have to go clean up my new place. My old friend came through, but it's kind of a mess right now. I'll see you tomorrow." With that, Jay turned and left.

Cass watched the exchange and then saw Ty walk away into his room, probably going back to bed. Her eyes softened, and decided to talk to him.
Cass looked at Jay and nodded. "Okay, we'll be here...I love you..." She waited a second and then knocked on Ty's door. "Tyler, can we talk?"

Ty's eyes slowly rolled open when he heard Cass knock. "Tyler, can we talk?" He sat up and slid out of bed onto the floor. Walking across his semi-messy room, he opened the door.
He blinked a few times. "Sure, what about?" Ty asked, rubbing his eyes. Though, he was a hundred percent sure this would have something to do with Jay and what had just happened in the living room.
He walked over to his bed and sat down, listening.

Cass sat next to him and looked at him for a minute. "How do you feel about all of this? I mean, am I going too fast? Or what am I supposed to do?" She looked at him with a confused look in her eyes.
Cass leaned her head on his shoulder. "I just don't want to rush into this if you're not okay with it, you know? We're a team. This decision should be for both of us."

Ty put his arm around Cass in a hug as she lay her head on his shoulder. "I told you, I may not be a fan of the guy, but you seem to think he's changed. I trust you on that. You know I respect your decision. It's up to you, not me."
He smiled. "Who knows? Maybe all I need is just a little more time. No matter how slow you go, this is still gonna be a big change for me. I just need to warm up is all. Don't you worry."

Cass looked at him and said, "I know, honey, but you're the most important person in my life. That's why I wanted to know your input."
Cass returned the smile weakly and said, "It's always been just the two of us for the last eighteen years. Don't you think the change might be good for you? You'd actually have a father..."

"Thanks, Mom. And you're the most important person in mine. He seems to make you happy, and your happiness matters most to me."
Ty snuggled up to her a bit, like he'd always done since he was a kid. "Yes, I think it would be good for me," he said. Then as a joke he added, "Then I'll have someone to hang out with when you decide to watch those chick flicks."
