Carson could not believe what was happening. Eva wanted to skip school. "Eva...this is ridiculous..." He shook his head as she dragged him into the grocery store. "What are we even doing here?"
Carson grabbed a cereal box off of the rack, looked at the back of it. "Eva, we will be so dead if we get caught."

Eva rolled her eyes at Carson. "You are such a worrywart. We aren't going to get caught. Now you can either freak out every five seconds or have some fun." She skipped a couple steps and turned around. "We are here...to see why people want to come here instead of the store a couple of blocks down from here. It seems so much cheaper there."
Eva looked over at Carson. "Relax, it isn't like your dad's going to be here or anything. Your mom's working, my parents are working...er, actually my mom is sleeping at home and my dad is working. Nothing to worry about."

Carson sighed. "I am not going to have fun. Dad is quite capable of getting out of the house and to this grocery store to go shopping. And instead of getting groceries, what is he going to get? A son that will end up in suspension!" He crossed his arms. "Now, can we please get out of here? Knowing my recent luck with getting into trouble," he glared at Eva, "Dad will be here to see us here instead of at school where we should be."
Carson sighed. There was no point. But he would keep trying. "Eva, you're stubborn you know that? I can tell you why people come here. It's because it is cheaper here."

Eva mocked Carson the whole way down the grocery aisle. "Relaaax. Uncle Jake is most likely at home." She looked around. "Not a lot of people here."
She sighed. "I suppose after a couple more minutes, we can leave." She was not having fun yet.

Carson groaned. "I am so grounded after this..." He followed Eva around the store for a couple minutes without saying anything and Eva said that they could leave after a couple of minutes.
"Eva, we need to leave like...now." Carson looked up at the ceiling as if saying 'Why Me?' and then looked at her. "Let's just go back to school. We can make it there before fifth period." He ran his hand through his hair and held it up there, exasperated. He would not freak out.

Eva shook her head. "Carson, you're hopeless. How can you be grounded if you don't get caught?" She trudged onwards. They had been there for a good fifteen minutes. Twenty minutes they would be out of there.
"What are you, a chicken? C'mon, think of all the fun we could do without going to school." She knew he only came with her to get her to come to school but she couldn't help it. She wanted to have fun. She saw him run his hand through his hair, and hold onto his hair like he was about to freak out. "I said relax. As long as you don't tell your father you were skipping, you'll be fine."

"How bout when you tell your father you were skipping?" Jake said from behind Eva. Jake shook his head and sighed. He had gone here because Cassie had called about forgetting something at the store. He hadn't expected to see Carson and Eva skipping school.
He looked over at Carson giving a "I'm so disappointed in you" look. "And I can't believe you would follow her here. We're going to have a long talk when we get home. And another when your mom gets home. And you're grounded." he told him. He never remembered Marco getting himself in so much trouble. "We're getting you two back to school,"

Eva was just about to say something when Jake's voice came from behind her. "Yah!" She jumped behind Carson and peered over his shoulder. Then she relaxed. "Oh...uh...hey there, Uncle Jake...didn't expect to see you here." She now stood next to Carson.
"Don't say it, Carson...just...don't." Eva shook her head. Then she turned to Jake. "Um...it isn't my fault! I just want to say so. See, a teacher wanted some..." she looked at the aisle, and then said the first thing that came to mind..."Spaghetti sauce. So really we are not at fault." Well, she had to try.

Carson saw him before he even spoke. His eyes had gone wide and he covered his face with one hand, thinking, I can not believe this. He saw the look his father gave him and he mentally flinched. He hated that look. It made him feel bad for following her. "Yes, sir," he said, looking at the ground.
"Say, what? I told you so? I know I don't have to, but still...I told you that this was a stupid idea." Then Eva tried getting them out of it. He raised an eyebrow. "Spaghetti sauce? Really? Good grief, Eva, a five-year-old wouldn't believe that." He already knew what Eva was going to say but just shook his head. Out of all things...she had to try and blame the spaghetti sauce and a teacher.

Jake raised an eyebrow at Eva's excuse. "....Not even your father would've come up with as lame an excuse as that. " he told her. What he wouldn't tell her is that Marco's lame excuses usually worked. "Now c'mon, we're getting you two back to school."
He motioned for the two to follow him. "Don't try and not follow me either. Or you'll both be in bigger trouble." he told them as he lead them to his car. "And by that I mean grounded for life trouble."

Eva pouted. "It was the best thing I could think of. It was better than-" she blinked. "Well, it was better than what I had thought of." It definitely was better than what she had originally been about to say. She didn't think either of them would appreciate it. Not to mention they were in the wrong aisle.
Eva had ignored the little "I told you so" speech that Carson had said, but she raised an eyebrow. "So much for playing along. You really need lessons on that, Carson." She rolled her eyes. When Jake told them not to try to not follow him she looked at Carson for a second. She whispered. "You know, he shouldn't be able to ground me if I run. It's hopeless for you."

Carson shook his head again at Eva as he followed his dad out of the store. The one day he had to be right it was today. Why did he go with Eva? Oh, yeah. It's only a quick stop. We'll be back before the late bell... she had said. Then they had walked a long way. Been there for a half an hour before getting caught. By his father. It would have been bad if it were Marco, yes, but it's always ten times worse when it's your own father.
Carson heard Eva's whisper, and gently pushed her forward. "Keep it moving, huck fin. I am not covering for you." They had reached the door and he hoped she didn't run for it.

"I'm sure it was," Jake said offhandedly. He led them to the door and soon heard Eva whisper. "I can still hear you Eva. I wouldn't recommend doing that," he told her. He was lucky he had the car parked so close. He could see it already.
He soon got there with the two behind them and unlocked the car. "Get in you too. Time to get back to class," he told them.

Eva sighed. Obviously getting out of it wasn't going to happen. Looking around one last time for any ideas, she opened the door to the backseat and slid inside. She pulled the car door closing it and put the seatbelt on.
Eva sighed inwardly. What would her father say to this? Probably that he's disappointed and then laugh at her. Because guess what?! Yet again....Carson was right. She waited for the other two to get in before heading out.

Carson heard the door unlock, and was actually glad that his father parked the car close to the door. He did not want to have to try to keep Eva from running anywhere. She was one of those take-flight people, and sometimes they were hard to get to pay attention.
Carson got in the car and put his seatbelt on in the frontside passenger seat. When Jake got in, he asked his dad, "Did you get...whatever you had come to the store for? Or did you somehow know we were going to be here?"
