Carson knew it. He knew it, but had hoped he was wrong. He was late for class, because he had stopped to talk to Eva. Sometimes he wondered why he was friends with her. Now was definitely one of those times. He slid in his seat and the teacher saw him. He knew it was coming. "Mr. Berenson." He gulped. "Yes, Ms. Revere?" He tried his best smile. "You are late again. No doubt you have an excuse again?" He thought fast. "Not...feeling well?" Oh, great one, Carson. "Detention after school, Carson. Here's a pass, so you can call your father." Carson stood up and walked slowly to the teacher. He grabbed the pass and went to make the call. He dialed his dad's number.

Jake had just woken up to the sound of his cell phone ringing. He had been exhausted for some reason and had just plopped down on his bed and took a nap. Maybe it was cause he was older, who knew?
He looked and didn't recognize the number. "Hello?" he answered a bit groggily.

Carson quirked an eyebrow when he heard his father's groggy voice. "Hi, Dad. Sorry I woke you up." He sat down just outside the principal's office, and simply could not believe he was actually serving time. "I'm going to be a little late coming home today."

'Its fine, I was getting up soon anyway," Jake told his son. Even after all these years he still wasn't used to saying he had kids. It just seemed weird to him.
He raised an eyebrow when Carson mentioned he was going to be late getting home. "Any particular reason?" he asked.

"Well, yeah. I do have a reason, but I highly doubt you're going to like it." Carson looked around to see if Eva got in trouble yet. "I have detention today."

Jake raised an eyebrow. Carson had dention? "What did you do that got you detention?" he asked him. "Better have a good reason." He still wasn't one to yell, but you could tell in his tone that he was a bit frustrated.

If Carson had been flexible, he would have just put his foot in his mouth. Oh man! "I was late to class. I lost track of time and I was talking to Eva. I'm sorry." Yeah, trying to keep her out of trouble as well as yourself, Carson. Look at where that put you. In detention anyways! It's always Eva. We've known each other for years! I should know better than to follow her with her mischiefs, or talk to her between five minute breaks.

Jake raised an eyebrow. Eva huh? It always seemed that Marco's daughter always got his son in trouble. How did that work out? He sighed. "I'll let you off the hook this time," he told him. "Next time though don't expect to be."

Just then Eva walked in with a similar slip in her hand, grumbling. "Call my dad and tell him...oh, hey Carson. What...oh, man. You got in trouble for being late? Who are you talking to?" She really didn't mean to get Carson in trouble. Heck, she didn't even mean to get herself in trouble. It just...happened.

Carson was about to say something to his father when Eva walked in, "Well, speak of the devil. Eva, you got caught again didn't you?" She asked him a couple questions. "Yes, and I'm talking to my dad." "Hey, Dad, it looks like Eva got detention too."

Jake listened to Carson as he said Eva got detention too. "Her too huh? How many times have you both gotten into trouble now?" he asked him. "You know what don't answer that. Just know I'm letting you off the hook for now. Don't let it happen again"

Carson mentally gulped. "Yes, Dad. Won't happen again. Love you." He hung up the phone. Carson sent a glare at Eva. "This is all your fault. If I never hang around you, I don't get in trouble, and I do my work." He handed her the phone and then said, "I'll see ya later, Eva," in a much chipper voice.

Eva watched him in amusement. Then she called out after him, "Hey, you're the one who decided to talk to me, not the other way around!" She laughed and then sighed. She dialed her father's number. Don't answer...

Jake nodded. "Love you too. See you when you get home," he told him and heard the phone hang up. He couldn't help but chuckle a bit. Marco had always gotten him into trouble and now his daughter was doing it to his son. Funny how life worked.

Carson walked back to his classroom and plopped down in his seat. He listened to the teacher drone on and on about the subject, and then finally they were allowed to leave. He walked over to his locker. Opening it, he put his stuff in and went to get some lunch.
