Ruby sat in the library. It was fairly empty, as usual. She preferred it that way. It was always quieter. No one bustling about as she flipped through her latest novel or her book. Currently she was engrossed in a well-used copy of Lolita. There was something about the story...as disturbing as the idea was...that was just intriguing. She couldn't explain it. It was just so...beautify written that she couldn't put it down.

Raylor found himself in a college library. He'd heard that reading helps to ease one's mind, so he figured it couldn't hurt to check it out. He stood in a corner, in his natural form, reading.
He wanted more than anything to forget the pain of Jae's mysterious disappearance. It was becoming very clear that she wasn't coming back....
He'd randomly picked up The Lonely Men by Louis L'Amour, and was instantly hooked. He read with his main eyes, his stalk eyes scanning the room, which contained only a handful of people. And it did ease his mind at first, but then he'd finished the book.
He put the book back and went to leave, not paying much attention. That is, until he accidentally bumped into someone who was reading. <Oh...I'm...sorry,> he said, ashamed to have gotten lost in his depressing thoughts again.

Ruby looked up from her book, brushing a stray hair from her face. "It's ok," she said back quietly. She glanced at the book. "What are you reading?" She smiled at him. She hadn't seen many Andalites around. Especially ones that would come to the library and read a book from Earth.

Raylor looked down at the copy of the book he was still holding before setting it in its spot on the shelf. He looked back at the girl, smiling.
<It's a "western," I believe. The Lonely Men. It's a tale of action, how a man was deceived by a woman, but his three friends followed him into Indian territory, despite the risk. They never left him as long as they were alive. But, it's also a rather sad tale....>
His voice trailed off as he looked at her. <I'm sorry, I never got your name. Mine is Raylor-Tyress-Estlinn.>

She smiled and nodded. "Sounds like a good book." She closed Lolita, taking note of the page she was on. "I'm Ruby," she said. She held out her hand. "It's nice to meet you, Raylor-Tyress-Estlinn."

Raylor nodded, shaking her hand. <It's nice to meet you, Ruby,> he said, smiling again.
<It is, but it is quite sad.> His stalk eyes drooped as he remembered Jae again, but shook it off. Nicely, he said, <You can just call me Raylor, if you want.>

She nodded, watching his stalk-eyes droop. "Mine's kind of sad and fairly creepy. It's...about a man who is in love with a child. But...It's so good."
She smiled. "Ok, Raylor. Hey, do you like coffee?"

Raylor's stalk eyes picked up when she asked if he liked coffee. His eyes glowed as he smiled a bit more.
<Yes,> he said. <I do enjoy a good cup of coffee.> Actually, I have yet to encounter human food that I DON'T like....

She nodded. "Ok. Good. I like coffee too." She reddened. "Uh...I mean...I'll show you where the, uh, shop is."
She tucked the book under her arm. "Just let me check this book out." She glanced at the book he put on the shelf. "You want me to get you that book too?"

Raylor noticed her face reddening. He held back the small chuckle he felt trying to come out. She was pretty cute, by human standards. Raylor thought so, anyway.
<No thank you,> he responded. <I have already finished it,> he looked away, slightly embarrassed to be such a fast reader. <I would love it if you were to take me to this coffee shop...> he said, morphing to human.

She smiled. "So have I, but I still love to re-read this book." She started heading for the check out. After a few minutes, she glanced over her shoulder to see if he was still behind her.
"Come on. It's this way." She started heading off towards the coffee shop that was in the library building.

Raylor nodded and smiled once fully morphed. "I understand. I may read it again, sometime. I like it, but it brings back....memories...." he said sadly.
He started following her, and pretty soon he was walking beside her. He looked at Ruby, and just her general attitude made him feel better.

She smiled sadly back at him. "Ok..." she said.
She was happy when he moved to walk beside her. It had been a while since she had just hung out with a guy. And maybe it would lean to something more. But she wasn't sure if that was what she was looking for. He just looked like he needed a friend.
Finally they reached the coffee shop. "What do you want? My treat."

Raylor's mind wandered again as he walked, but these thoughts were happy. He finally found a friend. Just a friend. He was hoping maybe it could go farther than just friends, but he wasn't too sure. That would just have to wait.
Right now, he just enjoyed Ruby's company. He smiled when she said it was her treat. "Thank you," he said, smiling gently. "I have grown to like the french vanilla cappuccino," he said, proud of not playing with the sounds.

Ruby smiled. "Two venti french vanilla cappuccinos." She paid and took the cups. Then she found a table. "How's this?"
